VOTE HELDER - for the election of the University Council 2011-2012.
The economic crisis has a huge impact on the academic community. The "Langstudeerdersboete" is in the air and research budgets are in a steep decline. The UU has to make substantial budget cuts as well. However, these cuts shouldn't come at the expense of the study associations or the amount of subjects one can study, which are both crucial to the academic development of students. In addition the university shouldn't implement policies to increase study rendement that have an adverse effect on students, such as an increase in the minimum resit grade from 4 to 5, a BSA in the 2nd and 3rd year and the expiration of grades after four years of study. In these times of crisis, students should be represented by critical, experienced students who are not afraid to open their mouths when necessary.
List Helder ( Helder means clear, comprehensible, unclouded) is composed of people with experience in co-determination and study association board members and of both Dutch and international students who won't shrink from confrontation with the board of the university. Who not only have a critical view on university policies, but they also present innovative ideas on subjects like the library, canteen, ICT and housing policy. Next to this, they also focus on sport accommodations for students, which are, right now, quite expensive. In this time of crisis, clarity is of utmost importance!
